It all started with research. Founder Peter Butler was a history researcher with a strong interest in New Zealand medicinal plants. Peter was researching the history of traditional use of herbs when he came across one herb that stood out; Horopito. Horopito has a long history of medicinal use by New Zealand’s indigenous Maori population. The leaves were bruised, steeped in water and used for various ailments, including toothache, ringworm, stomach aches, diarrhoea, headache, chest ailments. This discovery from New Zealand’s history archive was the founding idea behind Forest Herbs Research Ltd.
The first scientific research into the anti-fungal properties of Horopito was published in 1982 by researchers at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Since then there have been hundreds of scientific studies showing Horopito is highly effective at killing off Candida.
